Date: January 28 02:00 PM - 05:00 PM
Description:

Trying to find out who lettered old movie titles is a challenging, if not impossible task. Here is the chance to hear about and see the work of one of the great Hollywood lettering artists, Harold Adler.
Adler started with a background in calligraphy and show card lettering working in a title house’s bull pen back in the time when all movie titles were hand-lettered. He continued to letter independently for advertising, and entertainment and stayed at the forefront of the title business working with renown title designers such as Saul Bass and Pablo Ferro. He survived all of the changes in technology and maintained a studio and steady work until just before he passed away in 2002 at 89.
Come at 1:30pm to mix and mingle. Free and open to the public. Lots of free parking in lot to east of building.
Originally from Los Angeles, Jill Bell has lived in Kansas City for seven years. She does hand lettering and type design. Bell has worked for Saul Bass, lettered movie titles for Pablo Ferro and others and was an acquaintance of Harold Adler.
